FDLRS Parent & Family Services, in partnership with Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS), provides families of students with disabilities the tools, training, and support needed to actively participate in their child’s education. The program’s goal is to strengthen school-family partnerships and promote both academic and social success for students.

As part of this support, an ESE Parent Liaison—a parent with firsthand experience navigating Exceptional Student Education (ESE) services—works closely with families, schools, and district staff. The liaison helps families understand and navigate Exceptional Student Education, understand available supports, and advocate effectively for their children.  Contact your ESE Parent Liaison at any time.

Key Services Include:

• Guidance and Support for Families:
  Help families understand educational supports and procedures, assist with transitions from early childhood through post-secondary planning (ages 3–22), and provide support during IEP meetings and educational planning.

• Family-School Communication:
  Facilitate effective communication between families and schools by answering questions, connecting families with appropriate personnel, and sharing family concerns with district administration.

• Information and Learning Opportunities:
  Coordinate parent conferences, events, webinars, and workshops to increase understanding of the educational process and promote active family involvement.

• Resource and Referral Services:
  Connect families to community agencies, services, and educational materials that support children with special needs.

• Working Together:
  Committed to creating family-friendly initiatives and building strong partnerships. Through efforts like the annual ESE Parent Survey, free developmental screenings, and access to Special Ed Connection.
